The city was founded in the 9th century by Croats. Then came rulers such as the Hungarians, Venetians, and Italians. Between 1991 and 1995, the city was defended against Serbian forces. This long history makes the inhabitants proud of Šibenik. There is plenty to do in Šibenik, but just wandering around is also well worth your time.
